Throughout the year, Pack 223 organizes and hosts a number of events, activities, and meetings. Frequently, all dens are included in each event, with a few exceptions depending on den-specific objectives. The event calendar tends to coincide with the LAUSD school year (September to June).
In our meetings, Cub Scouts make new friends, play purposeful games, learn new skills, and earn badges together. Dens usually meet once per month, and all dens also come together once a month for a pack meeting at our current host location, Brentwood Presbyterian Church. These gatherings are the heartbeat of Pack 223 — full of laughter, teamwork, and family fun!
We kick off the Scouting year with our annual Kick-Off BBQ in September — a fun family gathering where everyone gets reacquainted, new families are welcomed, and we launch into the year's adventures together!
Our scouts build and race their own boats in the exciting Raingutter Regatta — a hands-on STEM activity full of creativity, competition, and cheering families.
In December, we join the national Wreaths Across America effort to honor veterans by placing wreaths at local cemeteries — a meaningful service project that teaches respect, gratitude, and community pride.
We combine fun and service with our Kite Derby & Beach Cleanup in February — scouts design and fly kites at Will Rogers Beach, then team up to clean the beach and protect our beautiful local environment.
The highlight of spring! Partnered with parents, scouts design, carve, paint, and race their custom Pinewood Derby cars — a celebration of teamwork, ingenuity, sportsmanship, and the thrill of the race.
We offer camping trips and overnights in the Fall and Spring — past favorites have included the Santa Barbara Zoo, USS Iowa, USS Midway, Camp Josepho, Camp Verdugo Oaks, and more. These outings build outdoor skills, independence, and lifelong memories.
One weekend each month the pack heads out for family-friendly day hikes on a local trail in the Santa Monica Mountains and the surrounding areas. These outings are a highlight for scouts and parents alike — fresh air, beautiful views, and plenty of time to explore nature together.
Our signature two-night camping trip to beautiful Camp Emerald Bay over Memorial Day weekend — a highlight for scouts and families with campfires, water activities, hiking, and the magic of Santa Catalina Island.
We finish the year strong by marching in the Pacific Palisades 4th of July Parade — putting on our uniforms, carrying banners and flags, smiling, waving, and sharing Scouting spirit with our entire community!
